November 8, 2023: Samsung Electronics convened experts for the second day of the Samsung AI Forum 2023, focusing on the burgeoning field of generative AI. With rapid advancements hinting at a major shift in everyday life and work, the forum was a hub for industry and academic leaders to discuss AI’s evolution and share technological trends.

Samsung Research showcased their generative AI model, Samsung Gauss, signaling a strong commitment to this transformative technology.

Daehyun Kim, Executive Vice President at Samsung Research Global AI Center, opened the forum with a pledge to continue fostering collaborative generative AI research with industry and academia.

The forum featured talks from prominent figures, such as Dr. Hyung Won Chung of OpenAI, who provided insights into the operation, challenges, and future of large language models (LLMs).

Jason Wei from OpenAI delved into how LLMs are catalyzing a paradigm shift in AI.

At the same time, Korea University’s Professor Hongsuck Seo discussed the progress in multimodal AI technology, which simultaneously processes multiple data types like text and images.

The afternoon session saw graduate students from Korea’s top universities present their groundbreaking research, sharing AI advancements in efficient code generation, spatial reasoning, fine-grained language model evaluation, and text-to-image generation technologies.

The forum concluded with a deep dive into Samsung Gauss and its applications in On-Device AI technologies. Named after the renowned mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss, the model comprises Samsung Gauss Language, Samsung Gauss Code, and Samsung Gauss Image, each designed to enhance consumer experiences and work efficiency.

Samsung Gauss Language model aids in tasks like email composition, document summarization, and content translation, promising smarter device control.

Samsung Gauss Code, including a coding assistant named code.i, optimizes software development with interactive coding support. Meanwhile, Samsung Gauss Image offers creative image generation and editing capabilities, transforming low-resolution images into high-resolution creations.

While Samsung Gauss is utilized to boost employee productivity, plans are underway to integrate it into Samsung products, offering users new experiences.

In line with AI ethics, Samsung’s AI Red Team proactively addresses security and privacy issues across all stages of AI development and deployment, ensuring safe and responsible AI usage.
